’57 Chevy Corvette. In ’57 you had big brakes, four speed transmission, which was long overdue, improved suspension parts and for the first time a milestone breakthrough: one horsepower per cubic inch with the 285 fueling.
My First Corvette, I bought it in 1960. It was a 283/ 270HP (dual Quads) engine, close-ratio 4-speed and a 3:70 Posi traction rear end. Bought it off a Chevy dealer lot for $2600. I ran it at the drag strip a couple times, it would run with a 13:80 ET and a speed of 104 MPH BIG Medicine in 1960. I kept it a little over 3 years, and traded it in on a new 1964 Corvette Sting Ray, It was a coupe, 327/375 HP Fuel Injection engine, and 4- speed close ratio transmission.
